I am a 25 year old Mechanical Design Engineer. I graduated from RPI in Spring 2014, and right after college I joined the military. I just left the military, and am looking to kickstart my career in engineering. In school, I had a design focused dual-bachelor's degree. My primary degree was Mechanical Engineering, but my second degree was in Design, Innovation, and Society, which sought to teach students how to work in interdisciplinary teams, how the innovation process worked, and how our ideas would interact with society. This means that I have the added benefit of being able to work and communicate with all members of a team, which is a great benefit to any project.
In college, I was especially focused on learning leadership skills. I started out just putting myself out there and volunteering to helm projects and to be the main spokesperson for presentations. It eventually developed into taking on roles such as Resident Director; which is a role that oversees other Resident Assistants in residence halls. I was even invited to partake in selective leadership courses. I look forward to furthering my leadership career.
If you were to look at my hobbies, you would say that they are varied. The list starts from playing the cello for the last 20 at a high level, to weightlifting in the gym. I tend to lean more towards hobbies that require the use of dexterity, such as magic/illusions and model making. I believe that this interest in a variety of hobbies shows how willing I am to explore and to learn, and that when I decide to learn something, I turn the concentration up to 11 and put my whole heart into learning the subject holistically. I intend to take this learning enthusiasm into the workplace.
